Acuity Brands Internship Program Overview

Are you a driven and talented individual seeking an environment to do your best work while developing into an impactful leader? The Acuity Brands Internship Program offers an exceptional opportunity.

This 10–12-week experience (May – August, 40 hours/week) is designed to develop high-potential candidates into impactful leaders through hands-on experiences that connect interns’ strengths and interests with the needs of the business, particularly within our operational and manufacturing environments. Interns will make a significant impact through participation in key projects and transformative processes.

Beyond project work, you will have opportunities to mentor and network with leaders throughout Acuity Brands.

It is preferred for interns to have only one or two semesters remaining in their degree program, positioning them for consideration for our Leadership Program immediately following the completion of the internship. The Leadership Program is a full-time, entry-level rotational program that allows recent graduates to explore different areas within a functional area, growing their skill set and network while discovering their passions early in their careers.

Work Flexibility: Onsite – Crawfordsville, IN

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

While specific projects and activities vary during your internship, you can expect to:

  • Applying Lean tools.
  • Identification and waste elimination in process.
  • Developing and implementing modified Standard Work.
  • Design and implementation of assembly jigs.
  • Helping with improvements to capacity model accuracy.
  • Work with the team on autonomation projects to improve capacity (likely helping with buffer upgrades and implementation of smart cell upgrades for quality).
  • Updating facility layouts – lighting layouts, camera layouts, changes due to equipment and cell moves.

Education

Minimum Education Required:

  • Some College

Preferred Education:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

In addition to pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university, qualified interns will have:

  • Relevant internship or project experience.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Experience leading teams or organizations.

Physical Requirements

Medium work/some lifting required/standing and walking for extended periods.
