Management Trainee | Southeastern Freight Lines

The Tone:
This is an entry-level training position with Southeastern Freight Lines, a robust organization committed to excellence in the transportation industry. This role is fundamental for identifying and developing future operational leaders who will drive efficiency, ensure smooth cross-dock operations, and cultivate strong internal and external relationships. The intensive 16-week program is meticulously designed to prepare individuals for their initial leadership and supervisory roles, directly supporting the company’s continuous growth and effective operational management across its extensive network of facilities.

The TL;DR
• Role: Entry-level Training
• Type: First Shift
• Location: In-person (Initial training location unspecified; relocation to another facility is required for your first leadership role upon program completion.)
• Pay: $50000–$60000 yearly
• Team: Operations Management Trainee Program, under the direct guidance of a dedicated mentor.
• Mission: To acquire a foundational understanding of the transportation industry’s principles and develop essential leadership capabilities for a successful transition into a supervisory operations role.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Participate: Engage actively and fully in an intensive 16-week Operations Management Trainee Program. This comprehensive program is specifically designed to thoroughly prepare you for your initial leadership or supervisory role within operations.
• Learn: Master the basic principles of the transportation industry, including the nuances of efficient cross-dock operations. You will also develop effective leadership communication and crucial relationship building skills.
• Interact: Interface daily with appropriate Support Center and Service Center associates in the completion of various aspects of the guided and independent study training program. This collaboration is key to understanding company-wide functions.
• Observe: Accompany and carefully observe an Account Manager during customer sales calls. This experience provides valuable insight into fostering customer relationships and understanding client needs in the freight industry.
• Understand: Ride along with drivers on local delivery routes on occasion to garner a firsthand understanding of the freight delivery process. This practical exposure helps to appreciate the daily realities and challenges of logistics.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates are required to hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation or Logistics.
• Experience: Alternatively, candidates must possess at least two years of related work experience, fulfilling the experience requirement for this entry-level training position.
• Skills: Successful candidates will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, including effective listening abilities, and must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times. Basic computer skills are necessary, along with a very strong work ethic to thrive in this environment. Additionally, an acceptable driving history that aligns with company standards is essential, and the role demands flexibility with a readiness to relocate as needed.
