Maintenance Worker | Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Maintain Roadway Infrastructure: Fill roadway joints and cracks, patch potholes, and clean and clear ditches to ensure proper drainage.
• Manage Traffic Safety: Flag and direct traffic, setting up signs, cones, and other control devices to ensure safety during work.
• Operate Vehicles and Equipment: Maneuver various vehicles to transport materials and employees, plow snow, spread ice control materials, and mow right-of-way areas.
• Execute Facility Maintenance: Repair and replace road signs and guardrails, clean curbs and gutters, and paint buildings and equipment as needed.
• Perform Specialized Repairs: Repair bridge decks and drains, clean bridge components at heights, install structural signs, and weld steel sign posts.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High School Diploma or GED/HiSET; early career level.
• Experience: A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam is required prior to the hire date. Must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status within 60 days after being hired.
• Skills: Ability to operate various vehicles and specialized equipment; capability to perform significant physical labor including moving materials by hand, operating hand tools, and stationary flagging for extended periods; capacity to work outdoors in heavy traffic, near heavy equipment, and in adverse environmental conditions.
