CNC Machinist | Altamira Material Solutions
The Tone:
This is a full-time position at Altamira Material Solutions, offering both 1st and 2nd shifts with some weekend work required. The company, operating as Plastic Distributors & Fabricators, LLC (PDF), is an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer known for specializing in CNC machined, fabricated, and thermoformed plastic components, as well as precision hardware integration. This role is crucial for expanding the team with skilled machinists who can bring hands-on experience across a variety of machining disciplines. The TL;DR

What You’ll Actually Do
• Planning: Study detailed specifications such as blueprints, sketches, damaged parts, or written descriptions to precisely determine dimensions, tolerances, the sequence of operations, and the specific tools, materials, and machines required for each job.
• Layout: Accurately measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and critical reference points onto raw stock, effectively laying out the material for subsequent machining processes.
• Operation: Skillfully operate a variety of metal-removing machines, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders, to precisely machine parts according to demanding specifications. This may also involve diagnosing malfunctions or testing repaired machines.
• Quality Assurance: Diligently verify the conformance of machined workpieces to all specifications using precision measuring instruments, ensuring adherence to strict ISO inspection processes. The machinist will also work with a supervisor to adapt procedures or techniques as needed.
• Documentation & Safety: Accurately document time worked by clocking in and out of the payroll time clock, correctly document all job activity and transactions, and strictly adhere to all established safety procedures and guidelines.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A High School Diploma or GED is required. Candidates should possess a foundational knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, and standard layout and machining procedures, typically gained through education or practical experience.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar machining environment is highly desired. This includes hands-on experience as a CNC Machinist, Horizontal Setup Machinist, ProtoTRAK Machinist, Lathe Machinist, and/or CNC Router Operator. Candidates with versatile machining backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply.
• Skills: Familiarity with G-code and other programming languages, a working knowledge of fixturing and tooling setup, the ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, a working knowledge of machine setups and various tooling, familiarity with measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges, and basic ability to operate computers.
• Bonus: A Trade or Technical Certification is desired. Candidates who demonstrate a versatile machining background and the ability to work across multiple machine platforms are highly encouraged.
