This internship at Instacart is designed for talented Ph.D. students who are eager to tackle complex machine learning challenges. The role involves deep dives into critical areas that drive Instacart’s core business, leveraging cutting-edge machine learning techniques.
Job Summary:
As a Machine Learning Intern at Instacart, you will be working on a variety of high-impact machine learning problems. These include enhancing search capabilities, optimizing advertising systems, improving personalization and recommendation engines, and contributing to other crucial areas like fraud detection, pricing strategies, and logistics optimization. The goal is to make grocery delivery more efficient, user-friendly, and cost-effective.
Responsibilities:
Interns will contribute to various aspects of Instacart’s machine learning initiatives, which may include:
• Query Understanding: Applying state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies to accurately interpret the intent behind user search queries.
• Search Relevance and Ranking: Enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of search results by integrating signals from diverse data sources.
• Ads Quality, pCTR, etc.: Improving the performance of advertising campaigns, focusing on increasing ad revenue and optimizing Return on Ad Spend (ROAS).
• Knowledge Graphs: Developing and managing graph data, facilitating knowledge discovery, and creating natural language interfaces for easier data access.
• Fraud Detection and Prevention: Implementing cost-sensitive learning techniques to minimize financial losses due to fraudulent activities.
• Pricing: Estimating customers’ willingness-to-pay and developing strategies to optimize both revenue and the overall user experience.
• Logistics: Applying optimization techniques to various logistical challenges, including predicting supply and demand, optimizing last-mile delivery, and improving in-store operations.
Qualifications:
• Required:
• Currently enrolled as a Ph.D. student in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or closely related fields.
• Demonstrated strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C++).
• Excellent understanding of algorithmic principles.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Possesses a curious, self-motivated, and hands-on attitude, with a strong willingness to learn.
• Preferred:
• Ph.D. student attending a top-tier university in the United States.
• Prior internship or work experience within the machine learning domain.
