This internship at Instacart is designed for talented Ph.D. students to work on complex machine learning problems.

• Personalization

Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in a variety of specialized machine learning domains, including:
• Query Understanding: Applying cutting-edge NLP technologies to accurately interpret the intent behind user queries.
• Search Relevance and Ranking: Enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of search results by incorporating signals from diverse sources.
• Ads Quality, pCTR, etc.: Contributing to the improvement of ads revenue and Return On Ad Spend (ROAS).
• Knowledge Graphs: Engaging in graph data management and knowledge discovery, and developing natural language interfaces for data access.
• Fraud Detection and Prevention: Utilizing cost-sensitive learning methodologies to minimize financial loss due to fraudulent activities.
• Pricing: Estimating customers’ willingness-to-pay and optimizing strategies for both revenue generation and user experience.
• Logistics: Addressing optimization challenges across various situations, including supply/demand prediction, last-mile delivery, and in-store operational optimization.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Currently a Ph.D. student in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or closely related academic fields.
• Possesses strong programming skills (proficient in Python, C++) and robust algorithmic skills.
• Demonstrates good communication skills.
• Exhibits characteristics of being curious, willing to learn, self-motivated, and hands-on.
Preferred:
• Enrollment as a Ph.D. student at a top-tier university in the United States.
• Prior internship or work experience specifically within the machine learning space.
