Job Description
About Woven by Toyota
Woven by Toyota is at the forefront of enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.
Our work centers on four critical pillars:
- AD/ADAS: Our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies.
- Arene: Our software development platform for software-defined vehicles.
- Woven City: A real-world test course for mobility.
- Cloud & AI: The digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation.
Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.
About the Team
At Woven by Toyota, our teams tackle a diverse set of complex problems, ranging from solving optimization challenges in 3D geometric computer vision to minimizing latency on hardware accelerators. We design novel neural network architectures and apply and advance the state-of-the-art of machine learning (ML) for perception, prediction, and motion planning.
The Perception team is specifically looking for a strong candidate in machine learning to join our 2025 intern program. You will work alongside our world-class machine learning engineers to further push the boundaries of our state-of-the-art perception system for autonomous driving. Your future colleagues are experts in machine learning within the domain of autonomous driving, having developed and deployed numerous deep learning models throughout the entire software stack. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from them, make a significant impact, and contribute to society.
What We’ll Give You
The objective of this internship is for you to acquire hands-on industry experience and conduct cutting-edge research within the domain of autonomous driving. This invaluable experience will provide you with:
- Access to our mature machine learning infrastructure.
- A massive amount of data for you to experiment with and ultimately improve our system.
- A strong focus on research, with the ultimate goal of deploying your work onto our prototype vehicles.
- The unique opportunity to experience your deployed work on public roads.
Woven by Toyota internships are structured to ensure you grow both technically and professionally. You will get a chance to work on real projects that directly affect future key results of our mission, while receiving constant feedback and working with clear goals. You’ll be supported by dedicated mentors and managers throughout your internship. At the end of the internship, you will share the results of your project with the team and other interested stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Perception ML model R&D through prototyping, validating, and iterating on existing and new model architectures.
- Own the end-to-end development of a new model functionality, including initial development, optimization, production platform validation, and fine-tuning based on metrics and on-road performance.
- Demonstrate a strong team player attitude and a “get things done” mentality.
- Produce a final report and present your findings to the autonomy team.
- Collaborate closely with other Perception team members as well as with upstream and downstream customer teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD degree with a research focus in Computer Vision, Robotics, or Deep Learning.
- Strong programming skills in Python and ML development with PyTorch.
- Proven ability to develop ML models.
- Extensive experience in deep learning.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and precisely.
- Passionate about self-driving car technology and its potential for humanity.
- Able to commit to a 12-week internship beginning in May or June of 2026.
The base pay for this position ranges from $30 – $55 per hour.
This internship is a temporary, non-permanent position designed to provide practical experience and learning opportunities. The duration of the internship is 12 weeks. The total compensation offered to an intern will be dependent upon the individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, location, and level.
