Job Description
As a Machine Learning Intern at Pinterest, specifically within the Monetization organization, you’ll be contributing to cutting-edge research in machine learning and artificial intelligence applied to ads. You will join engineering teams to tackle challenges related to exponential growth and massive scale while building awesome products and features, creating visually rich experiences, spearheading the discovery problem, and pinpointing tomorrow’s engineering challenges. Within the Monetization ML Engineering team, the focus is on connecting the aspirations of Pinners with the products offered by Pinterest’s partners.
Internship Details:
• 12-week fall internship
• Location: Remote, San Francisco, Palo Alto, or Seattle
What You’ll Do:
• Contribute to research in machine learning and artificial intelligence to personalize Pinterest.
• Collect, analyze, and synthesize findings from data, building intelligent data-driven models.
• Write clean, efficient, and sustainable code.
• Use machine learning, natural language processing, and graph analysis to solve modeling and ranking problems across ads.
• Scope and independently solve moderately complex problems.
• Take proactive ownership of tasks and project quality with minimal guidance.
What We Are Looking For:
• Experience in recommendation systems is preferred, as the role is within the Lower Funnel Monetization team.
• Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, ML, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of Machine Learning (ranking, recommendation systems, NLP, content recommendations, embedding, information retrieval, etc.)
• Proficiency in at least one systems language (Java, C++, Python) or one ML framework (Tensorflow, Pytorch, MLFlow).
• Practical knowledge of large-scale recommender systems or modern ads ranking, retrieval, targeting, marketplace systems.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a self-motivated mindset and the ability to find solutions for open-ended problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Publications at top ML conferences.
• Passion for applied ML and the Pinterest product.
