Legal Administrative Specialist | United States Attorneys’ Offices

What You’ll Actually Do
• Organize: Systematically manage criminal discovery materials for assigned legal cases.
• Support: Provide administrative assistance to attorneys and prepare legal and administrative documents for criminal proceedings.
• Prepare: Create master trial exhibits in both electronic and hard copy formats, including coordinating audio/video for courtroom presentations.
• Edit: Proofread and provide basic editing for various legal documents such as appellate briefs, motion responses, and warrants.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. For GS-7, a Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Law, Criminal Justice) with Superior Academic Achievement, or one full year of graduate education in a closely related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law). For GS-9, a Master’s, LL.B., J.D., or equivalent graduate degree in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology), or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education.
• Experience: For GS-7, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level, performing routine litigation support such as organizing case information, assisting with trial preparation (exhibits, notebooks, lists), preparing trial presentations, and conducting data research and analysis. For GS-9, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level, performing automated support for preparing, organizing, managing, and tracking exhibits/evidence/data, assisting attorneys with trial preparation (including making recommendations), and utilizing software for automated litigation assistance.
• Skills: Strong organizational and case management abilities for discovery materials, proficiency in preparing legal and administrative documents, expertise in creating electronic and hard copy trial exhibits including audio/video, and capability in proofreading and editing legal texts.
• Bonus: Experience providing technical assistance to litigation teams, making recommendations on trial presentations, and advanced utilization of various software applications for automated litigation assistance.
