The College Internship Program (CIP) is a full-year private young adult transition program for individuals aged 18-26 with autism, ADHD, and other learning differences. CIP offers comprehensive and specialized services, focusing on the generalization of specialized skills for students preparing for independent living, college, and employment. CIP has over 40 years of experience in helping young people develop the self-knowledge and skills to lead happy and productive lives.

Job Description:

CIP is seeking a Life Skills Coach to join their team in Berkeley, CA. This is a non-exempt position reporting to the Life Skills and Wellness Coordinator, with evening and weekend availability required.

The Life Skills Coach will guide and mentor students in building essential life skills for successful adulthood. This involves:

Developing Independent Living Skills: Assisting students in acquiring competencies and routines for independent living after CIP, including apartment maintenance, cooking, cleaning, and time management.
Practical Application: Leading grocery shopping outings and providing transportation as needed, fostering healthy roommate interactions, and facilitating fun, inclusive social activities.
Collaboration: Working within a multidisciplinary team to support students’ growth across academic, career, social, and wellness areas.
Community Engagement: Engaging students in exploring and connecting within the community.
Safety & Well-being: Ensuring a high level of health and safety within students’ living environments and the community.
Executive Functioning Support: Conducting Executive Functioning appointments with students based on their needs and coordinating with staff accordingly.
Crisis Management: Assisting students in handling challenges, using de-escalation techniques and other strategies when necessary.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication, organization, and prioritization skills, along with genuine empathy and awareness of the needs of students and staff.

Qualifications:

Required:
• Associate’s degree (or in pursuit of) in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
• Active Driver’s License.
• Proficiency in office utility computer software programs.
• Independent living skills experience.
Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience in the field of autism and/or learning disabilities, especially in a residential setting.
• Crisis management guru and mentor experience.
