Westland Veterinary Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital located at 7610 N Wayne Rd, Westland, MI 48185. They cater to dogs, cats, and exotic pets, including birds, rabbits, ferrets, and other pocket pets.

• Specialty and generalized pet care.

Hospital Hours:
• Monday – Wednesday: 8:00am – 6:30pm
• Thursday: 9:00am – 6:00pm
• Friday: 9:00am – 6:00pm
• Saturday: 8:00am – 1:00pm
• Sunday: Closed

This opportunity is for a part-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join the team at Westland Veterinary Hospital.

Shift Details:
• Tuesday – Thursday: 8:00am – 3:30pm

Pay Range:
• $20 – $25 per hour (based on experience)

Major Duties and Responsibilities of the Veterinary Technician:

In-patient Medical Care: Administer medications, assist or perform treatments, conduct diagnostics and monitoring, place IV catheters, draw blood, run lab tests, administer IV fluids, and handle patient cleaning, feeding, and walking as needed.
Anesthesia/Surgery: Perform patient preparation, induction, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery of patients during surgical procedures. Also responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and sterilizing anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments.
Dentistry: Provide patient dental care, including ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, and assist the doctor with dental surgery.
Radiology: Position patients and assist with radiographs, including sending radiographs via email.
Laboratory Duties: Collect, prepare, and run or submit samples for requested tests (e.g., fecals, urines, ear cytology), reading and recording results when indicated by the doctor.
Administrative Tasks: Prepare invoices, discharge instructions, and client informational tools.
Client Communication: Provide updates for hospitalized patients, give discharge instructions, and perform follow-up for specific hospital patients.
Client Education: Conduct medical demonstrations and educate clients on at-home care procedures.
Veterinary Technician Appointments: Perform tasks such as blood draws for therapeutic monitoring/screening tests, bandage changes, post-operative checks, suture removals, anal gland expressions (AG), and nail trims (TNT).
Clinic Technician Support: Assist doctors with outpatient appointments, prepare, restock, and clean exam rooms, check patients in and out, take patient history and vitals, input data into patient medical records, and ensure a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments.
Reception/Front Desk Support: Assist with duties as needed, including answering phones, booking appointments, and admitting/discharging patients.
Training and Mentoring: Assist in training and mentoring new team members.
Inventory Control: Inform the inventory manager when products are low or out of stock, and assist with unpacking and restocking drug and medical supplies.
Prescription Preparation: Prepare dispensed medications and medication refills.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb.
• Ability to manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds independently and over 50 pounds with a coworker.
• Capacity to endure sitting, standing, and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods.
• Sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties within a hospital environment.
• Ability to work in noisy conditions with sounds from animals and equipment.
• Routine exposure to various pets that may bite or scratch, and occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
• Possession of good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity for using a keyboard and operating equipment.
