Job Description

Job Title: Legislative Intern

Organization: The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL)

About The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL):
The Alliance for American Leadership (A4AL) is a bipartisan political action committee dedicated to revitalizing U.S. global leadership through strategic investments in international development. A4AL firmly believes that effective foreign assistance is crucial for:

  • Fighting global poverty
  • Strengthening U.S. national security
  • Preventing pandemics
  • Supporting American economic growth

A4AL actively lobbies to protect and strengthen funding for essential aid programs across the world, including global health, famine relief, anti-poverty initiatives, PEPFAR, and Food for Peace. The organization works closely with moderate Members of Congress to counter proposed cuts to foreign aid and ensure the continued efficacy of these vital programs.

Demonstrated Impact:
A4AL has a proven track record of successful advocacy, demonstrating that their lobbying efforts yield results:

  • Conducted 700+ meetings with congressional offices
  • Mobilized 800+ advocates across all 50 states
  • Successfully protected $400 million in global health funding from rescissions, including crucial programs like PEPFAR.

Responsibilities:
As a Legislative Intern, you will play a hands-on role in A4AL’s advocacy efforts. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting with Members of Congress and their staff to advocate for A4AL’s mission.
  • Assisting in the organization of university and community events to raise awareness and mobilize support.
  • Drafting letters to the editor and other compelling advocacy materials.
  • Conducting essential legislative research and drafting policy memos to inform strategic decisions.
  • Providing direct support to endorsed congressional campaigns through field organizing.

Qualifications:
A4AL is seeking motivated individuals who are:

  • Reliable
  • Detail-oriented
  • Organized
  • Possess strong written communication skills

An interest in Congress, foreign policy, or advocacy is beneficial, but no prior policy experience is required, making this an excellent opportunity for those new to the field.

Commitment & Logistics:
This is a remote, volunteer position. While the role offers flexible hours, interns who can commit to working full-time will be given the valuable opportunity to take on more leadership responsibilities within the team.

Strategic Vision & Partnerships:
A4AL is ambitious, with plans to grow to over 10,000 campaign volunteers by the midterms. Their long-term goal is to become the largest force pushing for a restoration of foreign aid, working closely with partners to strengthen and reinstate aid programs. A4AL maintains strong relationships with organizations such as Aid on the Hill, the National Peace Corps Association, the US Global Leadership Coalition, Foreign Policy for America, and The ONE Campaign, and is always open to forging new alliances.
