Legal Practice Assistant | Fenwick & West

This Legal Practice Assistant position is vital for ensuring the efficient operation of litigation practices, directly supporting assigned attorneys and paralegals to consistently produce high-quality work and meet the needs of the firm and its clients.

• Mission: This role is responsible for providing comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to litigation attorneys and paralegals, ensuring efficient workflow and superior client service.
• Tech Stack: PacerPro, iManage/Propel, Best Authority, Blue Book, Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, OCR

What You’ll Actually Do
• Collaboration: Maintain positive working relationships and effectively collaborate within the secretarial team to ensure comprehensive support for assigned attorneys and paralegals.
• Filings Management: Execute State, Federal, and Appellate ECF sealed and public filings with proficiency, demonstrating a robust understanding of court and local rules, and managing calendaring needs.
• Discovery Process: Manage all aspects of the discovery process, including drafting, formatting, and proofreading requests and responses, organizing documents, and coordinating with relevant parties.
• Document Preparation: Generate and troubleshoot Table of Contents and Table of Authorities using Best Authority, maintaining proficiency with Blue Book and state citation styles for legal documents.
• Administrative Support: Perform diverse administrative functions such as preparing check requests, managing attorney calendars, coordinating vendor services, and assisting with timekeeping protocols.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Mid-level career experience, specifically 3+ years supporting litigation attorneys and paralegals in a law firm setting.
• Experience: Required experience with independently e-Filing documents in accordance with federal and state court rules.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in State, Federal, and Appellate ECF filings; adeptness with legal resources like court websites, Lexis-Nexis, and Westlaw; ability to generate and troubleshoot Table of Contents and Authorities; strong organizational skills for calendar and document management.
• Bonus: Knowledge of patent litigation procedures is strongly preferred; curiosity about new tools, including AI, and openness to experimenting with evolving work methods.
