ILR’s mission is to reduce excessive frivolous litigation and restore fairness and balance to the nation’s civil justice system. This is achieved through legislative, judicial, and educational activities at national, local, and international levels.

Job Description (Detailed)

This is a part-time Legal Intern position within the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR).

Internship Schedule:
The internship is scheduled to run from Monday, September 15 through Friday, November 21, 2025.

Work Schedule:
Interns can expect to work up to 20 hours per week. It is a hybrid schedule, requiring interns to be in the office at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C., for at least two days a week. Fully remote applicants will not be considered.

Compensation:
Interns are paid $20.00 per hour. Students may also receive academic credit if their school’s criteria are met.

Position Overview:
Legal interns will assist ILR in implementing federal and state programs through various tasks including legislative and legal research, memo writing, and updating fundraising materials.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct specific issue-related research.
• Write analytical memos.
• Participate in ILR member task force calls, meetings, and other important events.
• Attend/watch and report on congressional hearings and events.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree and currently pursuing a Juris Doctorate (J.D.).
• Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a changing environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and follow-up skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, and Outlook.

Applicants must submit a resume, cover letter, and a writing sample with their application. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until Friday, July 18. Interviews will be conducted in July and August.

Work Authorization:
This internship requires U.S. work authorization and is open to candidates with Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and/or Optional Practical Training (OPT).
