About Ada County:
Ada County is seeking a Legal Intern to join their Prosecutor’s Office in Boise, ID. The Prosecutor’s Office is dedicated to serving Idaho’s largest community, keeping it a safe place to live and work, giving a voice to crime victims and advocating for the citizens of Ada County.
Job Description: Legal Intern
This is a part-time, temporary position paying $30.00 hourly. The Legal Intern will support attorneys with legal research, case preparation, and administrative tasks, gaining hands-on legal experience and deepening their understanding of the justice system. The intern may be assigned to either the Criminal or Civil division, based on interest, availability, and organizational needs.
Criminal Division: Interns will learn litigation, negotiation, preparation, and trial skills by working on misdemeanor and felony cases. They may spend time in court and document a high volume of cases.
Key Responsibilities (Criminal):
• Appearing in court and documenting cases.
• Drafting legal documents.
• Participating in case negotiations.
• Preparing for hearings and trials.
• Conducting legal research.
Civil Division: Interns will function as corporate counsel for Ada County, working on areas such as tort litigation, construction, contract, employment, bankruptcy, land use planning, and general civil practice.
Key Responsibilities (Civil):
• Drafting contracts and other legal documents.
• Conducting legal research.
• Drafting advice letters and legal opinions.
• Negotiating and preparing contracts and real estate documents.
• Preparing ordinances and resolutions.
• Practicing in all phases of civil litigation.
Requirements:
• Second-year law student who qualifies for an Idaho Legal Intern License.
• Knowledge of online legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis).
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong work ethic and ethical standards.
