Job Description: Legal Intern

Ada County is seeking a Legal Intern for a part-time, temporary position in Boise, ID. The intern will support attorneys with legal research, case preparation, and administrative tasks, gaining hands-on legal experience and deepening their understanding of the justice system.

Salary: $30.00 Hourly

The position may be assigned to the Criminal or Civil division, based on interest, availability, and organizational needs.

Criminal Division:

Handles misdemeanor and felony cases, appearing in magistrate and juvenile divisions. Interns will learn litigation, negotiation, preparation, and trial skills.

Essential Functions:
• Appears in court and documents cases.
• Drafts legal documents.
• Participates in case negotiations.
• Prepares for hearings and trials.
• Conducts legal research.
• Manages and prepares cases to meet critical deadlines.

Civil Division:

Functions as corporate counsel for Ada County and its Elected Officials. The office practices law in such areas as tort litigation, construction, contract, employment, bankruptcy, land use planning, and general civil practice.

Essential Functions:
• Drafts contracts and other legal documents.
• Conducts legal research.
• Researches and drafts advice letters and legal opinions for clients.
• Negotiates and prepares contracts and real estate and construction documents.
• Prepares ordinances and resolutions.
• Advises Ada County Human Resources and county clients on personnel matters.
• Practices in or assists in all phases of civil litigation.

Job Requirements:

• Second-year law student who qualifies for an Idaho Legal Intern License
• Knowledge of online legal research tools
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Strong work ethic and highest ethical standards
