Legal Assistant | Markovich Grover PLLC

The Tone:
This is a full-time hybrid Legal Assistant role at Markovich Grover PLLC, based in Houston, TX, offering some flexibility to work from home part of the week. Markovich Grover PLLC is an insurance defense law firm that focuses on defending complex claims under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, the Defense Base Act, the War Hazards Compensation Act, and various state workers’ compensation claims. The firm represents clients in highly specialized areas of workers’ compensation and related insurance matters. In this position, the Legal Assistant plays a crucial role by supporting attorneys and ensuring the efficient operation of the practice. Team members collaborate closely with attorneys to navigate federal statutes and regulations, developing deep subject-matter knowledge in niche areas of insurance defense. What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Preparation: Prepare, format, and proofread a variety of legal documents, including correspondence, and filings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to legal standards.
• Case File Management: Maintain accurate and organized case files and excel tracking files, meticulously organizing and redacting discovery materials, and updating case management systems and databases regularly.
• Administrative Support: Assist attorneys with time entry input, track critical deadlines to ensure timely action, and provide comprehensive support for scheduling hearings, meetings, and depositions.
• Communication & Coordination: Facilitate frequent and effective communication with clients, various vendors, opposing counsel, and third-party administrators to manage case progression and information exchange.
• Operational Support: Handle a range of general administrative tasks including calendar management, precise data entry, and providing essential billing support to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the practice.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s degree, paralegal or legal assistant certification, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
• Experience: Prior experience working as a Legal Assistant or in a similar support role within a law firm is required. Experience with administrative assistance and case management in a legal or professional services environment is also necessary.
• Skills: Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, and filing legal documents, is essential. Effective communication skills for interacting with attorneys, clients, and external stakeholders are critical. High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are also key. Comfort with legal practice management software, document management systems, Adobe, and Microsoft Office is expected.
• Bonus: A strong foundation in law and familiarity with insurance defense or workers’ compensation matters will be an advantage.
