Legal Assistant – Employment and Labor Relations and Immigration Groups (Detroit) | Briggs and Morgan, P.A. (now Taft Law)

The Tone:
This is a professional support role at Taft, located in the Detroit (Southfield) office. Taft is a preeminent full-service law firm with over 2,000 team members, dedicated to client success through collaboration and advanced technological resources. This role is crucial in providing exceptional administrative and legal support to the firm’s Employment and Labor Relations and Immigration Groups, ensuring attorneys can effectively serve their clients. The Legal Assistant plays a vital part in maintaining the high standards of service and efficiency for which Taft is known.

The TL;DR

• Team: Supports assigned employment and labor relations and immigration attorneys and paralegals.
• Mission: To provide exceptional administrative and legal support, ensuring efficient operations and outstanding client service for the Employment and Labor Relations and Immigration Groups.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office programs, word processing systems, document management systems and software.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Attorney Support: Provide skilled, proactive support to assigned employment and labor relations and immigration attorneys, and others on occasion.
• Document Management: Prepare, review, proofread, and edit documents, letters, and memoranda according to Firm standards, utilizing word processing and document management systems.
• Administrative Oversight: Independently manage attorney schedules and calendars, proof and release time entries, register and report CLEs, assist with client contacts, process mail, and manage reimbursements.
• Court Filing: Perform e-filing in state and federal courts, and support the billing process as requested by attorneys.
• Immigration Case Assistance: Assist attorneys and paralegals with immigration petitions and applications, gather necessary client documents, respond to client inquiries, process correspondence from government agencies, and track case expirations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Mid-level professional with a strong understanding of legal administrative support within employment, labor relations, and immigration practice groups.
• Experience: 3+ years of related experience in a legal setting, demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
• Skills: Accurate document proofreading and editing; effective e-filing in state and federal courts; meticulous management of schedules and calendars; clear, concise, and professional communication; outstanding client service orientation; strong attention to detail; and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Bonus: A desire to continuously maintain and upgrade technical skills, including a willingness to learn new software and systems.
