This role is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and compliance of the firm’s bankruptcy practice, ensuring all federal bankruptcy procedures and deadlines are met in a demanding legal environment. What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Preparation: Prepare, process, and file bankruptcy-related legal documents, including electronic court submissions through federal systems.
• Case Monitoring: Maintain case files through electronic case management platforms and monitor active matters, gathering information from various parties.
• Deadline Management: Calendar and meticulously track all bankruptcy deadlines, hearings, claims bar dates, and filing requirements.
• Client & External Communication: Communicate professionally with clients, courts, vendors, and other parties regarding case-related matters.
• Attorney Support: Assist attorneys with the preparation of exhibits, hearing materials, meeting documents, and manage their calendars and travel.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior level. High school diploma or equivalent required, with additional education or legal training preferred. Core domain knowledge of federal bankruptcy procedures, court rules, and legal terminology is essential.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience working directly in bankruptcy law as a legal assistant or similar legal support role is required. Prior experience supporting bankruptcy attorneys in a law firm environment is also a must-have, including experience with electronic filing systems like PACER and CM/ECF.
• Skills: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Demonstrated excellent proofreading, writing, and document production skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize deadlines and manage multiple active matters. Professional communication skills for collaborating with diverse parties.
• Bonus: Familiarity with legal research or litigation technology platforms is a plus.
