Legal Administrative Assistant – Litigation and Family Law | Offit Kurman
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Offit Kurman, located in Hackensack, NJ. Offit Kurman, an Am Law 200 firm, is seeking an experienced professional to support its Litigation & Family Law practice. This role is pivotal for providing comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys, ensuring the efficient operation of complex legal matters. The successful candidate will deliver exceptional service to clients, maintain the highest levels of professionalism, and uphold strict confidentiality.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Direct Attorney Support: Provide comprehensive administrative support to Litigation & Family Law attorneys, which includes managing complex calendars, scheduling all necessary meetings, court appearances, depositions, and client appointments, and processing expense reports and reimbursements.
• Legal Document Production & Filing: Draft, meticulously proofread, edit, and accurately format a wide range of legal documents, such as correspondence, pleadings, and court filings. This also involves preparing, electronically filing, and formally serving these documents through state and federal e-filing systems, and coordinating physical filings when required.
• Case & Information Management: Coordinate the complete new client and matter intake process, including opening files and maintaining accurate client records. Additionally, organize and diligently maintain all electronic and physical case files, pleadings, discovery materials, and comprehensive trial binders, while proactively monitoring case deadlines and court dates.
• Professional Communication & Confidentiality: Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and external vendors. This role also maintains strict confidentiality of all client and firm information, upholding the highest standards of discretion.
• Litigation & Practice Assistance: Assist actively with various aspects of litigation case management and thorough trial preparation. This includes comprehensive document organization, and providing essential reception and general administrative backup support for the overall practice group as needed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is an experienced legal professional role requiring a minimum of 3 years in a legal administrative assistant or legal secretary capacity within a law firm or professional services environment.
• Experience: Candidates must possess 3+ years of direct experience in a law firm or professional services setting, specifically demonstrating robust skills in preparing, formatting, proofreading, and filing a diverse range of legal documents. A strong working knowledge of both state and federal court filing procedures is essential.
• Skills: Essential skills include strong organizational capabilities with the proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines. The role demands excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with exceptional attention to detail, strong client service acumen, and the ability to build professional relationships. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and practical experience using document management and client management systems are also required. The ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a team-oriented environment is also key.
• Bonus: Prior professional experience specifically supporting Litigation and/or Family Law attorneys is strongly preferred, as it directly aligns with the practice areas of this role.
