Lead Operational Practices Specialist (MN)

The Lead Operational Practices Specialist is responsible for providing business and technical expertise to support the development and administration of the company’s operational activities for compliance with federal and state pipeline safety regulations and company operations standards throughout CenterPoint Energy Gas Operations.

Essential Functions

• Assists with the coordination of federal and state inspections and regional pre-audits, reporting, and post-audit follow-up.
• Provides data and information for annual reports and incident reports, incident investigations, and safety-related condition analyses and reporting.
• Provides leadership and expertise for Gas Operations in fashioning policies and procedures concerning operator qualification and public awareness.
• Interprets applicable federal and state regulations, agreements, policies, and procedures and provides solutions for company compliance.
• Facilitates the development of new policies, procedures, and guidelines for Gas Operations.
• Communicates information to company personnel at all levels within the company, including presentations to management teams.
• Develops, implements, and monitors key regulatory control mechanisms to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, including rules and regulations.
• Creates and maintains open dialogues with departments, requests information, and responds by providing suggestions, alternatives, and assistance. Leverages relationships to identify opportunities for improvement and develop solutions to operational issues throughout Gas Operations.
• Interfaces with management to identify best practices and ensure consistent operational procedures throughout the organization.
• Assists with coordinating incident investigations and root cause analysis, determinations, and recommendations.
• Serves on various internal committees and external gas industry teams, providing company-level perspective to process improvements and problem resolution.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required, or
• Will consider relevant job-related CenterPoint Energy experience for a non-degree candidate.
• Prefer a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in Pipeline operations with subject matter expertise in at least one of the following areas: regulatory, gas operations, procedure writing, business, information technology, engineering, or process improvement.
