Job Description: Lead Integrated Circuit Design Engineer (ROIC)
This role involves leading the Readout Integrated Circuit (ROIC) design team within the Santa Barbara Focalplane business. The engineer will be responsible for developing cutting-edge infrared (IR) imaging sensor technology used in mission-critical systems such as:
• Space sensors
• Targeting and navigation sensors
• Situational awareness sensors for military platforms
• Aerial surveillance sensors
• Drone-mounted systems
Responsibilities:
• Developing ROIC design requirements: Defining the specifications and parameters for the design.
• Contributing to new ROIC architectures: Designing the overall structure and organization of the circuit.
• Designing analog, mixed signal, and digital circuit blocks: Creating the individual components of the ROIC.
• Interfacing with other engineering disciplines and giving customer and design review presentations: Collaborating with other teams and presenting design progress to stakeholders.
• Requirements and concept development of ROIC systems: Defining the overall system requirements and proposing new design concepts.
• Circuit block design, circuit simulation: Designing individual circuit blocks and simulating their behavior.
• Coordination of circuit layout designers: Working with layout designers to ensure the physical implementation of the circuit meets design requirements.
• Lab testing and debugging of hardware: Testing and troubleshooting the designed hardware.
• Presentation of design review material: Presenting the design progress and results to stakeholders.
• Coordination with CMOS semiconductor foundries: Working with manufacturers to fabricate the circuits.
• Support of IR sensor system design with other engineering disciplines: Collaborating with other teams to integrate the ROIC into the overall sensor system.
This position requires a strong background in CMOS Integrated Circuit design, experience with Cadence Virtuoso IC design suite, and a proven ability to lead and coordinate engineering teams. The ideal candidate will also possess expertise in analog, mixed-signal, and digital circuit design, including high-speed digital blocks like memory, PLLs, ADCs, DACs, and high-speed serial transmitters. Experience with transistor-level layout mask design, serial interfaces (SPI, I2C, etc.), Linux C-Shell scripting, and version control systems (e.g., Git) are highly desirable. Understanding of IR sensor systems is a significant plus. The role also involves project management and coordination of engineering teams across the product lifecycle. A government security clearance is required (US Citizenship is mandatory). The position offers a flexible work schedule with a mix of remote and on-site work.
