The Tone:
This is a seasonal contract role at Black Rocket, teaching in-person summer programs for children and young adults. Black Rocket builds unique educational programs that blend creativity and technology, aiming to prepare kids for tomorrow while making learning cool. This role is essential for delivering distinct enrichment courses that emphasize self-empowerment, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving through hands-on learning. As a Lead Instructor, you will ignite, unleash, and enhance students’ distinct talents in technology and creative fields.

The TL;DR
• Role: Contract
• Type: Seasonal (4-10 weeks, Monday-Friday)
• Location: In-person, various partner regions across 30+ states
• Pay: $20/hr – $28/hr

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruction: Lead in-person summer camp classes for children aged 6-14, teaching technology and creative subjects.
• Curriculum Delivery: Deliver hands-on lessons in areas such as coding (Python, JavaScript, Lua), game design (Roblox, Minecraft), digital arts, video editing, and robotics.
• Classroom Management: Manage classroom dynamics for groups of up to 12 solo or 25 with an assistant, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Logistics: Safely manage and transfer necessary equipment between various program sites for different classes.
• Student Engagement: Foster self-empowerment, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving in students through interactive activities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be 21 years or older and authorized to work in the United States, with a genuine love for working with children. Ideal candidates are college graduates with degrees in education, digital arts, computer science, or IT, or graduating seniors with student teaching experience, or possess significant relevant work experience.
• Experience: A minimum availability to work 4 weeks, Monday through Friday, during the summer season, starting in June, is required. Candidates must also be available to complete online training at their own pace in May. While formal teaching experience is not required, ideal candidates will have some prior experience working with children in either formal or informal settings, such as a classroom, volunteering, childcare, tutoring, or coaching.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong technology skills are highly preferred, encompassing areas like 3D modeling, various coding languages (such as Python, JavaScript, Lua), game creation or design (including Minecraft or Roblox), animation, robotics, video editing, and digital arts. Candidates must possess the ability to effectively lead a classroom of up to 12 children solo or 25 with an assistant, and safely manage and transfer equipment between different program sites as required.
