Job Description:

CenterPoint Energy is seeking a Lead or Senior Contractor Safety Specialist to join their Quality Program Management Team. The role involves monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating contractor safety performance, conducting field safety evaluations, tracking incidents, and managing the contractor safety program. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor, review, and report on contractor safety performance.
• Maintain the contractor safety management system and manage the contractor safety program.
• Review, update, and communicate contractor safety scorecard and metrics.
• Develop and conduct contractor safety field observations and report trends.
• Establish contacts with contractor safety leadership and build rapport with crews.
• Respond to contractor incidents, gather documentation, and participate in depositions as needed.
• Provide feedback and present to internal/external contractor safety management and risk oversight groups.
• Participate in contractor orientations, roundtables, and industry conferences.
• Develop and maintain standard work instructions (SWI) for the role.
• Conduct safety cross training to internal teams.
• Assist with contractor onboarding, ongoing support, and offboarding.
• Travel will be required, including overnight stays.

Qualifications:

Lead Contractor Safety Specialist:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, or technical field or 15+ years of experience managing safety practices in the natural gas/electric utility industry.
• 9+ years of experience in energy delivery, safety management, or related industry.
• Required certification: Safety Management Specialist (SMS) or achieved within 12 months of hire.

Senior Contractor Safety Specialist:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, or technical field or 10+ years of experience managing safety practices in the natural gas/electric utility industry.
• 6+ years of experience in energy delivery, safety management, or related industry.
• Required course: OSHA 30-hour, can be substituted via a Safety Certification.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Utility Professional (CUSP) or achieved within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of gas/electric utility and/or power generation protocols and regulations.
• Preferred course(s) certification: NIMS 100, 1910.269 (Electric), Taproot Investigation, MEA Leadership Training or Electric, Transmission and Distribution (ET&D) 20 hour.
