About the Job
CenterPoint Energy is looking for a LCL949 Technician A – C&M to join their Team, located in Shakopee, Minnesota.
Essential Functions:
• Performs quality construction and maintenance on gas distributions system and other related functions.
• Safely operates and maintains several types of construction equipment minimizing down time and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Welds and performs layout work required for the installation and repair of gas distribution system and related equipment.
• Assembles, installs, repairs, tests and maintains the gas distribution system and related equipment, including but not limited to gas meters and regulators to assure safe, continuous service to customers.
• Responds to emergency situations to maintain public and personal safety.
• Operates equipment/tools used in the protection, repair, replacement and installation of new gas mains and services, including preparation and restoration of the construction site for completion of assigned projects.
• Performs routine operator maintenance on all equipment/tools used in and associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair and testing of the gas distributions system.
• Inspects distribution system maps and drawings to determine location, gas flow patterns and pressures, and to ensure that components used in repairing and adding to the system are appropriate.
• Follows the Operations Manual procedures and inspects work of the crew for compliance with all company codes and those of local, state and federal agencies.
• Completes record-keeping associated with construction and maintenance operations in a timely manner to ensure an up to date and accurate information system is maintained.
• Performs other related tasks including, but not limited to, leak survey work, line locating, foreign construction work, store-keeping, meter reading, chart changing, transporting equipment, and fleet and facilities maintenance to ensure efficient operation of the work.
• Conducts or participates in external and internal training, including field, classroom and online to increase job knowledge and certify qualifications.
• Advises and assists other employees on-the-job to provide technical, safety and procedural knowledge.
• Maintains a professional working relationship with internal and external customers.
• Welds on gas distribution system to install, repair, abandon and relocate mains, services, distribution regulators and meters. This includes the preparation and layout of work needed prior to welding.
• Cuts, bevels and trims metals and uses flame cutting torches and approved power tools.
• Makes welded repairs on vehicles and equipment to extend the working life and/or make changes and modifications.
Education Description:
• Requires successful completion of a certification program at an accredited educational institution in natural/propane gas distribution, installation and repair, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent technical skills.
Experience:
• Requires a minimum of one year’s experience in the installation and repair of services and mains as well as demonstrated requisite knowledge and operating experience of various excavation equipment; e.g., trencher, tractor, backhoe.
• Must be a Technician “B” for at least six months.
