Law Fellow, Temporary | University of Mississippi

This position supports the National Sea Grant Law Center’s mission by conducting vital legal research, analysis, and outreach on critical ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes legal issues.

• Mission: Conduct legal research, analysis, and outreach on ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes legal issues to support Law Center projects.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Conduct high-quality legal research on ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes legal issues, utilizing online legal databases to examine statutes, regulations, and case law.
• Analysis & Writing: Perform legal analysis to address research questions and draft original written content, including articles, reports, and other materials, to summarize findings.
• Event Support: Assist with the development and coordination of workshop sessions, conferences, webinars, and other events hosted by the Law Center.
• Presentation: Prepare and deliver oral presentations of research findings in both virtual and in-person settings.
• Data Management: Develop and implement data management systems to collect and analyze relevant legal data, facilitating comparative analysis for projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school by the starting date.
• Experience: No prior professional experience is explicitly required, though relevant course or work experience is valued.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability in legal research, legal analysis, and legal writing, supported by a strong law school academic record.
• Bonus: Interest in, and/or relevant course or work experience pertaining to, ocean/coastal law, natural resources law, or environmental law.
