Law Clerk | White Pine County
The Tone:
This is an early career position with White Pine County, located in White Pine County, Nevada. The White Pine County District Attorney’s office is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Law Clerk to provide comprehensive legal research and analytical support to its attorney staff. This limited-scope role is specifically designed to offer practical experience to recent law school graduates as they undertake the requirements necessary to become licensed Nevada attorneys, assisting the District Attorney with critical legal research and project coordination. The Law Clerk will contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the District Attorney’s services by performing duties characterized by the necessity for strong legal research and writing skills within clear guidelines.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Conduct Legal Research: You will research applicable legal and factual issues thoroughly, utilizing computerized techniques and/or physical law library materials, always under the direct supervision of an attorney. This involves a deep understanding of methods and techniques for legal investigation and research.
• Draft Legal Documents: You will interpret and apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities to draft essential legal papers such as memoranda, motions, briefs, and pleadings related to specific cases or issues, ensuring accuracy and adherence to court procedures.
• Explain Procedures and Policies: You will research and clearly explain departmental, County, and State procedures to attorneys and departmental support staff, drawing upon your knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
• Support Team Effectiveness: You will actively contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the District Attorney’s services by offering suggestions and participating as a valued member of a work team.
• Maintain Records and Reports: You will accurately maintain records and files, and prepare a variety of reports as assigned, utilizing standard office practices and computer applications for filing and documentation.
The Must-Haves
• Background: You must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, or be currently enrolled in an accredited law school with the successful completion of at least two years of study. This position is suited for individuals preparing to undertake the requirements to become licensed Nevada attorneys.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in legal research and writing is required. While specific years are not mandated, prior experience in performing legal research and/or writing legal opinions or documents is highly desirable.
• Skills: You must have proven skills in identifying and analyzing legal issues, conducting independent legal research using various tools, applying legal principles to case facts for well-reasoned conclusions, and preparing clear, concise, and well-organized legal memoranda and reports. Strong verbal and written communication abilities are essential.
• Bonus: Prior legal internship, externship, or clerkship experience is strongly preferred, as is knowledge of court procedure, applicable laws, codes, regulations, and rules of evidence.
