LAW CLERK | Clark County

The Tone:
This is a Law Clerk position at Clark County, located in Las Vegas, NV, within the District Attorney’s Office. This office provides legal services and representation for the county in Civil, Juvenile, and Criminal Divisions. This role is crucial for supporting attorney staff by performing essential legal research and writing, directly contributing to the preparation of various legal documents. Law Clerks help interpret and apply laws and court decisions, ensuring the office effectively serves the community.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Conduct thorough legal and factual research, utilizing computerized techniques and comprehensive law library materials as directed by an attorney or judge.
• Drafting: Interpret and accurately apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities to meticulously prepare briefs, pleadings, legal opinions, and various other legal documents.
• Analysis: Draft detailed memoranda and comprehensive opinions that clearly articulate findings on specific cases or complex legal issues.
• Guidance: Provide valuable support by researching and explaining departmental, County, and State procedures to attorney and departmental support staff.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate legal records and files, and meticulously prepare a variety of reports as assigned.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Completion of a Juris Doctor (professional doctorate) degree from an accredited law school. This is an early career role, encouraging students in or entering their final year of law school to apply, with employment contingent upon receiving the JD.
• Experience: No specific years of prior full-time professional experience are explicitly required for this entry-level role.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in legal research methodologies and tools, including computerized techniques and law library materials.
• Expertise in legal writing for briefs, pleadings, legal opinions, and other legal documents.
• Ability to interpret and apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities accurately.
• Competence in using standard office equipment and computer applications.
• Bonus:
• Prior full-time experience performing legal research and/or writing legal opinions or documents.
• Active membership in the Nevada State Bar, enabling court appearances on behalf of the County.
