About the Internship:

KCI is seeking a motivated student for a Landscape Architect Internship to join our dynamic team for Summer 2026. This internship provides invaluable hands-on experience within a leading engineering and consulting firm.

  • Interns will commit to a 40-hour work week.
  • A minimum of 10 weeks of work is required, typically spanning from mid-May to the end of August.
  • Each intern will be assigned a dedicated supervisor and mentor to guide their professional development.
  • Participation in planned activities and events is expected.
  • Interns will gain presentation skills by submitting mid-summer and end-of-summer reports/presentations.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Landscape Architect Intern, you will play an integral role in supporting our project teams, gaining exposure to various stages of landscape architecture projects. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with the design and planning of outdoor spaces, including preparing drawings and contributing to project presentations.
  • Conducting project site visits to observe field conditions, assist in site measurements, and gather crucial information for design projects.
  • Adhering to all company policies and procedures, ensuring a professional and compliant work environment.
  • Actively participating in bi-weekly (or more frequent) meetings with project teams.
  • Completing all assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Supporting the development of preliminary concept designs and preparing them for internal approval processes.
  • Assisting with the preparation of preliminary site plans, including the creation of base sheets, for review and approval.
  • Comparing field data with base plans to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with project specifications.
  • Conducting field construction observations and learning to prepare detailed reports of findings for supervisor review.
  • Performing site visits to collect necessary data, which may include measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs.
  • Drafting accurate and visually appealing report graphics to effectively communicate project information.
  • Compiling and drafting research summaries to support project development and decision-making.
  • Obtaining required research materials from federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Accurately plotting the location of project sites and utilities on relevant plans.
  • Reviewing shop drawings to ensure they meet project specifications and established standards.
  • Completing other duties as required or assigned to support the team and project objectives.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • This is an entry-level position; no previous experience is required.
  • Currently enrolled in a college accredited program for Landscape Architecture.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:

  • A 3.0 GPA or higher is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation or AutoCAD skills is desired.
