Laboratory Technician I – Environment Testing (Entry Level)

Join Eurofins Environment Testing, a leader in environmental analysis, for a full-time, entry-level opportunity. This position is ideal for individuals interested in starting a career in a laboratory setting, with no college degree required.

Compensation: $17.50 an hour, plus benefits, plus a 15% shift differential.

Shift & Hours: Full-time, Wednesday – Sunday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Training will be Monday – Friday for a couple of weeks. Overtime is required as needed.

Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician I supports laboratory operations by utilizing general laboratory methods, techniques, equipment, and instrumentation. This role ensures compliance with Eurofins Environment Testing America’s Quality Assurance programs and standard operating procedures. Key responsibilities include general maintenance of laboratory and supply storage areas, equipment, instruments, and supplies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Retrieves samples from Sample Control for analysis.
  • Performs various sample preparation methods, which may include:
    • Aliquot samples
    • Spike and trace samples
    • Prepare reagents
    • Bottle samples
    • Prepare concentrations
    • Separation
    • Sonication
    • Liquid rack set up
  • Resolves discrepancies and anomalies to ensure samples are properly labeled.
  • Prepares general laboratory paperwork, such as recording analysis results, tracking samples, completing bench sheets, and maintaining laboratory logbooks.
  • Washes laboratory glassware in preparation for the next day’s samples.
  • Stocks laboratory supplies.
  • Cleans work area(s) to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assists other laboratory areas as needed.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • General knowledge of chemistry and/or general science.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mechanically inclined and enjoys instrument troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable with a flexible schedule (potential for 8-hour shifts to extend to 12 hours during busy seasons).
  • Detail-oriented.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Education: High school chemistry coursework is a must.
  • Experience: Basic laboratory experience is helpful. Previous production-oriented work (awareness and ability to meet deadlines) is helpful.
  • Candidates with or without a college degree (BA or BS) are encouraged to apply and would excel in this position.

Additional Requirements

  • Authorization to Work: Must be authorized to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
  • Language: Professional working proficiency in English is required, including the ability to read, write, and speak.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally (e.g., when moving samples or disposing of waste).
    • Pushing and Pulling: Ability to push and pull up to 200 pounds (e.g., when moving sample carts and gas tanks).
    • Body Positions: Approximately 60% standing (analyzing samples), 10% walking (moving about laboratory), and 30% sitting (computer work, paperwork, analyzing samples). These percentages vary. Must be able to sit, stand, or stoop for long periods of time.
    • Body Movements: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching when getting samples and performing analyses.
    • Smelling: Ability to detect unusual odors, leakage, contamination.
    • Hand Use: Handling samples, operating instruments, data entry.
    • Hearing: Conversational hearing ability.
    • Vision: Performing analyses, viewing computer screen, doing paperwork.
    • Speaking: Conversational speaking ability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
