KOIN 6, a broadcast and digital media company, offers internships to college students interested in journalism, communications, sales, and marketing. The KOIN 6 internship program provides college students interested in journalism and communications, as well as sales and marketing, a unique opportunity. The hands-on experience allows students to get an in-depth look into the field of broadcast and digital media from an array of perspectives and challenges students to use their knowledge in an applied industry setting.

Internship Overview: The program is designed to provide hands-on experience in broadcast and digital media. Interns gain an in-depth look into the field from various perspectives.
Requirements:
College Credit Only: All positions are for college credit only.
Hours: 16 hours per week, usually lasting 8-12 weeks.
Eligibility: Must be a full-time college student, entering junior or senior year.
Documentation: Must provide a letter from their academic advisor certifying junior/senior status and that academic credit will be received.
Schedule: Interns need to set up an hourly schedule in advance with their supervisor that will sufficiently meet their school’s required credit hours.
Duties: Interns are to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined in the internship descriptions and other tasks as assigned by their supervisors.
Unpaid Internship: The internships are unpaid.
Location: KOIN 6 News, Portland Metro Area.
Internship Areas: Opportunities are available in the following areas:
Everyday Northwest and AM Extra Lifestyle Shows: Plan and prep for a lifestyle and entertainment show. Writing scripts, researching local businesses, confirming guest appearances and information, prop set up and take down.
News: Work alongside the Assignment Desk, Weather, Photographers/Editors, and Reporters/Anchors. Requires a writing background, journalism majors preferred. Exceptional English and grammar skills and an eye for detail.
Digital Media: Write for all forms of digital media. Produce and post multimedia stories about the Portland Metro Area; Create Facebook posts/Tweets promoting coverage; Assist in operating a dynamic website with regular updates as well as constantly emerging content. Writing/editing courses completed; Working knowledge of WordPress, CMS, social media platforms; Passion for telling local stories.
Promotions: Assist in the creation and coordination of marketing and promotional activities.
Sports Interns: Write, shoot, edit for sports reports in newscasts.
Sales/Marketing/Programming: Learn phone etiquette and presentation skills and the importance of interaction between advertisers and the television station.
Programming/Production: Learn the dub and digital editing process of commercials. Students may also be asked to produce commercials.
