Junior Target Requirements Engineer

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Junior Target Requirements Engineer to join the MDR team, supporting the critical mission of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
You will be an integral part of the MDA Threat Systems Engineering Directorate team, playing a key role in managing the Agency’s assessment objectives as requirements for MDA flight tests.
The position involves contributing to the development of parametric target specifications and trajectory, radar cross-section (RCS), and infrared (IR) signatures. These specifications and signatures are crucial for encompassing intelligence assessments for the Missile Defense System’s design, testing, and performance evaluations.
Key Responsibilities (What You’ll Be Doing)
As a Junior Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Conducting research and performing technical/engineering analysis necessary to create products that support the development of flight test target requirements.
- Utilizing a parametric threat space (PTS) methodology to guide your analysis.
- Developing bounds for PTS parameters, including:
- Kinematics
- Radar Cross-Section (RCS)
- Infrared (IR) signatures
- Employing various software tools and analytical techniques for data manipulation and analysis.
- Actively participating in writing and reviewing products to ensure their accuracy, quality, and clarity.
- Collaborating closely with government Target Engineers to ensure all developed products conform to established engineering best practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following:
- Education: A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in an engineering, mathematics, statistics, or another related STEM field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience working on missile defense-related or other Department of Defense (DoD) projects.
- Security Clearance: An active Secret security clearance is mandatory.
- Threat Data Analysis: Proven ability to research and evaluate intelligence-based threat system performance data, and identify relevant threat parameters for targets to effectively emulate threat characteristics and performance to support test objectives.
- Signature Data Manipulation: Proficiency in utilizing software tools to manipulate Radar Cross-Section (RCS) and Infrared (IR) signature data to generate bounds.
- Technical Communication: Experience in technical engineering, identifying risks, and preparing clear and concise technical briefings.
Preferred Skills (Desired, Not Required)
Candidates with the following qualifications will be highly regarded:
- Security Clearance: A Top Secret (TS) clearance is desired.
- MDA Experience: Prior experience working with or for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
- System Understanding: Basic understanding of radar and optical systems.
- Software Tools: Experience with analytical tools such as MATLAB or Optical Signatures Code.
- Programming Languages: Experience in Anaconda or Python programming languages.
- Office Productivity: Proficiency with MS Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
