Junior Systems Administrator | MANTECH

The Tone:
This is an early career role at MANTECH, located in Chantilly, VA. MANTECH is a leading provider of innovative technologies and solutions for government and national security programs. This Junior Systems Administrator position is crucial for maintaining the operational reliability and security of customer IT environments. The role involves hands-on support, managing vital virtualized and Active Directory infrastructures, and ensuring seamless IT services for the organization.

• Mission: Provide comprehensive Tier 1 IT support, manage and optimize VMware virtualized environments and Active Directory infrastructure, and ensure seamless and reliable IT operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Deploy and install new computer equipment, including workstations, printers, peripherals, and Multi-Factor Authentication tokens, to ensure readiness for users.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose various hardware and software interface issues, determining root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Perform essential Tier 1 system administration duties, utilizing a privileged administrator account to manage and maintain system functionality.
• Document diverse hardware and software configurations, ensuring accurate records, and communicate effectively with other team members regarding IT operations and issues.
• Travel domestically up to 25% to support various customer activities and equipment deployments as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career. Bachelor’s Degree, or a high school diploma/GED with 2 years of computer hardware/software experience. Possesses foundational knowledge of client and server operations.
• Experience: 2+ years of computer hardware/software experience if without a Bachelor’s Degree. Required experience includes installing Windows 10/11 operating systems and applications, as well as installing workstation and networking hardware such as RAM, NICs, hard drives, and network cabling. An active Security+ Certification is a mandatory requirement for this role.
• Skills: Foundational knowledge of basic networking concepts. Ability to troubleshoot hardware/software interfaces and interoperability issues. Competence in conducting Tier 1 system administration utilizing privileged accounts. Understanding of Windows Share and Folder permissions, including Attribute Access Control (ABAC) and Role Based Access Control (RBAC).
• Bonus: Experience utilizing Service Desk ticketing systems like Service Now or Remedy. Familiarity with asset tracking processes. Demonstrated technical writing and documentation skills. Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, threats, vulnerabilities, incident response, and handling methodologies. Possessing Network +, A+, or other IT-related certifications is also a plus.
