Job Summary
This role supports the development, maintenance, and enhancement of application and data systems within the Office of Digital Learning & Academic Technology at Florida State University. The Junior Application & Data Systems Developer will contribute to building robust data pipelines, managing databases, and designing web-based applications that facilitate instructional, administrative, and reporting functions across the university.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Systems Support:
- Supports the design and maintenance of data pipelines, databases, and repositories for learning management systems, reporting platforms, and institutional analytics.
- Develops scripts, queries, and workflows for data collection, transformation, storage, and retrieval.
- Assists with basic data modeling, integration, and quality assurance processes.
- Helps maintain secure and well-organized data environments.
- Application Development:
- Designs, develops, tests, deploys, and maintains web-based and internal applications supporting instructional, administrative, and reporting functions.
- Assists with user interface (UI) design, ensuring accessibility compliance, and enhancing usability.
- Implements features to improve application performance, reliability, and user engagement.
- Supports debugging, version control, and comprehensive software documentation.
- Requirements & Documentation:
- Gathers technical and functional requirements from stakeholders, translating them into specifications and development plans.
- Documents application features, data processes, and system procedures thoroughly.
- Collaborates with developers, analysts, and administrators to align technical solutions with organizational needs.
- Communicates project status and complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Research & Best Practices:
- Researches and evaluates emerging tools, programming frameworks, and data technologies.
- Assists with testing and implementing new solutions to enhance system efficiency and scalability.
- Applies best practices in software development, data management, accessibility, and security.
- Engages in professional development to continuously strengthen technical competencies.
- System Maintenance & Compliance:
- Participates in system maintenance, upgrades, and scheduled updates.
- Assists with monitoring application and data system performance and resolving issues proactively.
- Ensures compliance with institutional policies related to data privacy, security, and technology use.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support departmental and University objectives.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Management Information Systems, or another appropriate field.
- Alternatively: A high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience.
- Or: A combination of appropriate post-high school education and experience equivalent to four years.
