Job Description, Detailed

This role is for an accounting position at First Student, with the overall purpose of assisting in the day-to-day maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and preparing basic financial reports under direct supervision.

Major Responsibilities:
• Preparing, reviewing, and adjusting journal entries.
• Performing reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts.
• Actively participating in Department Efficiency Teams, focusing on re-engineering and automating accounting processes to improve efficiency.
• Conducting analytics on financial information to ensure data quality and integrity.
• Reporting the company’s financial status to management, and providing suggestions related to resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underpinning budget forecasts.
• Maintaining fixed assets, which includes managing property additions and disposals, as well as handling personal, real estate, and right-of-use assets.

Experience & Requirements:
• Candidates must currently be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting.
• Familiarity with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Codification is required.
• Preferred experience includes proficiency with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Word) and accounting software.
• Key personal attributes sought for this role include being action-oriented, possessing good time management skills, being an attentive listener, and demonstrating integrity.
