IT Summer Intern (Device Refresh & Operations) | The Community Group
The Tone:
This is a summer internship at The Community Group, located in Lawrence, MA. TCG is a private non-profit organization, founded in 1970, dedicated to creating and managing high-quality programs focused on education and related services that support families in the Lawrence area. This role is vital for supporting the IT Department during peak summer operations, primarily focusing on large-scale device refresh and ensuring classroom technology readiness for summer programs and the upcoming school year across multiple school sites. The intern’s contributions directly ensure reliable access to technology for hundreds of staff and over a thousand devices supporting students.

• Team: The IT Department provides on-site and remote technical support to over 500 staff members and supports more than 1,000 devices across TCG and CDCPS programs.
• Mission: To prepare devices, classrooms, and staff technology setups for summer programs and the upcoming school year, ensuring reliable access to technology for staff and students within an educational environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Device Refresh & Deployment: Perform hands-on device refresh work across multiple school sites, including imaging, configuring, cleaning, and testing laptops and Chromebooks.
• Logistics & Preparation: Assist with large-scale device collection, servicing, and redistribution efforts, ensuring devices are ready for new hires, summer programs, and fall onboarding.
• Classroom Technology Setup: Support on-site classroom setup and closeout, configuring teacher workstations, student devices, and peripherals to meet classroom and student needs.
• Inventory & Asset Management: Track and organize IT inventory across school sites, updating asset records and maintaining accurate device counts in storage and deployment areas.
• Operational Support & Documentation: Assist with updating IT documentation and procedures, supporting inventory cleanup, and helping ensure device standardization across all locations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student with a demonstrated interest in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience: Comfort with working hands-on with hardware and devices, along with the ability to consistently work a full-time schedule for the duration of the internship.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to follow processes efficiently, organizational skills, reliable transportation for travel between sites, and the ability to lift and move IT equipment such as laptops, carts, and boxes.
• Bonus: Experience with Chromebooks, laptops, or device setup; familiarity with basic IT concepts; or an interest in working within education or non-profit environments.
