Investment Research Associate – Sustainability | Madison Hunt
The Tone:
This is a full-time role with a global investment manager, located in New York. Madison Hunt is partnering to hire for this critical position, which is distinctly focused on fundamental research and data analysis rather than corporate sustainability or ESG reporting. The successful candidate will be a key contributor, assessing how material sustainability factors may affect company performance, investment risk, and long-term investment outcomes. This role demands strong research training, advanced data capabilities, and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work under demanding timelines.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research & Analysis: Conduct detailed company, industry, and sector research, analyzing financial statements, company disclosures, and large financial and sustainability datasets.
• Modeling: Build and maintain robust analytical models, datasets, and tools to support comprehensive investment analysis.
• Reporting: Produce clear written research and in-depth company assessments for senior investment professionals.
• Sustainability Integration: Assess sustainability-related factors through a fundamental investment and financial materiality lens.
• Portfolio Support: Conduct comparative and portfolio-level analysis across companies and sectors, and support company engagement and stewardship projects.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Officer. This role requires a strong understanding of financial statements, companies, and capital markets, coupled with robust fundamental company and sector research capabilities. Candidates should be able to approach investment research through a financial materiality lens.
• Experience: Approximately 2-5 years of experience in equity research, investment banking, asset management, or another rigorous analytical role within financial services. Preference is given to candidates with financial modelling experience.
• Skills: Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities are critical, alongside exceptional attention to detail to produce accurate work quickly. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for clear research delivery and collaboration.
• Bonus: A genuine interest in sustainable investing and the practical application of sustainability factors within investment research. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a low ego, high accountability, and a willingness to take ownership of detailed analytical work, effectively operating within a lean team structure.
