Job Description: Investigative Engineering Intern (Summer Internship)

This summer internship within American Structurepoint’s Investigative /Forensic Engineering Group is located in Columbus, IN. It offers a hands-on opportunity for students to delve into the world of structural forensics, contributing to the restoration and preservation of the built environment.

Key Responsibilities & Experience:

• Gain hands-on experience both in the field and in the office, working alongside licensed engineers and architects.
• Assist with investigations of damaged or deteriorating buildings and structures, acting as a detective for architecture and engineering.
Assess structural conditions and help develop repair and restoration plans for various materials including wood, masonry, concrete, and steel, effectively bringing structures back to life.
• Contribute to technical reports that document findings and proposed solutions, enhancing writing and analysis skills.
• Utilize software like AutoCAD and/or Revit to create digital drawings and models that support investigations and repairs.
• Perform other tasks as needed to support the investigative team.

Qualifications:

• Currently a student majoring in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related program with a focus on Civil Engineering.
• Possess a reliable personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license for necessary travel between job sites.
AutoCAD and/or Revit experience is considered a plus.
• Demonstrates a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and an eagerness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Must have the ability/willingness to perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and scaffolding, working from heights, walking on roofs, and accessing crawl spaces or other areas of limited accessibility.
