Job Description (Internship Program):
Truth Initiative offers paid semester-long internships in the fall, spring, and summer. Fall and spring internships are 15-20 hours/week, while summer internships can be full-time (37.5 hours/week). Students can participate for up to two semesters.
The internship program provides practical public health experience, professional skills development, and career guidance. Specific internship areas and responsibilities include:
• Marketing Social Media Intern: This role focuses on TikTok community management, engaging with users, researching trends and influencers, creating weekly content, and assisting with monthly campaign performance analysis. Requires strong communication skills and an interest in social media management.
• Communications Intern: This intern will be fully integrated into the Communications team, assisting with various tasks such as writing press releases, drafting newsletter stories, assembling press kits, researching media coverage, and supporting press conferences and events. Ideal candidates are undergraduate students in a related field.
• Development and Partnerships Intern: This role supports fundraising, grantmaking, and college activism, particularly through the Tobacco/Vape-Free College Grant Program. Responsibilities include college grant recruitment, funder research, meeting logistics, and data entry. Undergraduate students with an interest in college activism, grants, and public health are preferred, especially those in public health, marketing, political science, or related fields.
• Research Interns (Schroeder Institute): These interns contribute to evaluating the Truth campaign or other research efforts. Tasks may include literature reviews, data searches, survey testing, codebook creation, data management, geospatial analysis, and assisting with data analysis and presentations. Graduate students in public health are preferred but undergraduate students will be considered. Strong detail orientation, communication skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Interest in behavioral or tobacco control research is a plus.
• Research Analyst Intern: This role requires an undergraduate or Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field, with a strong quantitative background. Experience with programming, data management, and statistical research methodology is highly desired. Responsibilities include data cleaning, analysis, documentation, literature reviews, and assisting with presentations.
General Requirements:
All internships require current undergraduate student status (except research roles which may accept graduate students). A passion for public health or tobacco control is beneficial. Experience handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment is essential.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Pay: $17.50/hour for undergraduate interns and $20.50/hour for graduate interns.
• Flexibility: Summer internships are remote.
