Job Description (Detailed)

This is an Internship – Embedded Software Engineer position with Safran Cabin.

Contract Type: Internship / Student
Contract Duration: 3-6 months, full-time (29 hrs/week). There is a potential to convert to full-time employment depending on performance and business needs.
Location: Carson, California, United States. The role requires the intern to be onsite at the Carson, CA location.
Relocation: No relocation benefits are provided.
Salary Range: $22 – $24/hr USD.

Required Experience: First experience (0 – 1 years of software intern experience with a desire for embedded software systems).

As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern, you will play a pivotal role on the Engineering team. The primary responsibility is to assist senior engineers in the research, analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, and modification of software/firmware. This software/firmware is used in electronics equipment such as VFMDs (Variable Frequency Motor Drives ACIM/BLDC), AC/DC Power Converters (3-Φ), and 28VDC Valve Controllers, all within the commercial aerospace industry.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist higher-level engineers in the development of embedded software for electronics systems and electro-mechanical products.
• Assist in control system software requirement development and generate embedded (C or C++) code for controllers, 3-phase Active Rectifiers, and Motor Control with on-board digital signal processors.
• Collaborate with suppliers to review software design and support software design review activities.
• Interface with vendors, customers, and other departments regarding technical issues.
• Execute thorough unit test plans, reporting, analyzing, debugging, and correcting anomalies.
• Integrate with other components, solving problems within and across subsystems to produce final products.
• Assist in performing RTCA/DO-178 based process tasks, which include creating/updating documents such as PSAC, SDP, SVP, SCMP, SQAP, SCI, and SAS.
• Independently find or create solutions to problems, demonstrating research, resourcefulness, and creativity.
• Understand, follow, and promote ZWWS policies and procedures.
• Utilize sound technical problem-solving skills to support ongoing projects, with support from higher-level engineers.
• Document findings and trade studies.
• Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

To successfully perform the duties, candidates should meet the following requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer or software engineering from a recognized ABET accredited institution or equivalent.
• 0 – 1 years of software intern experience with a strong desire for embedded software systems.
Physical Demands: Regularly required to move around the office.
Work Environment: The noise level is usually minimal.
Travel: Periodical travel is minimal, typically 3-5 days per quarter.
Special Skills & Knowledge:
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, VHDL/Verilog and/or scripting languages like Perl/Python or Power Shell.
• Knowledge of embedded systems architecture and programming.
Competencies:
Analytical: Knowledge of C/C++ and Assembly. Desirable knowledge of scripting languages (Perl/Python) and LabVIEW.
Design: Familiarity with TMS320F28XX DSP, PIC16XX, MC68XXX or X86 DSPs/Microcontrollers.
Technical Skills: Understanding of Real-Time Operating Systems and Boot loaders.
Interpersonal Skills: Possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment. Remains open to others’ ideas and is willing to try new approaches.
