Key Features of the Internship:
• Paid Internship: Interns receive compensation for their work.
• Flexible Hours: Work hours are adaptable to accommodate school workload and extracurricular activities.
• No Employment Guarantee: Participation in the internship does not guarantee an offer of regular employment upon completion.
• Termination Clause: The internship can be terminated at any time due to reasons such as lack of skill advancement, poor interpersonal skills, poor attendance/punctuality, or changes in business conditions.
Student Qualifications:
• High School Students: Must be entering their senior year or older. Interns under 18 years old require a parent’s co-signature on the internship agreement.
• College Students: Must be accepted into an MSI-approved Advanced Manufacturing related program.
Program Overview:
The internship provides hands-on learning experiences, helping students develop essential interpersonal and technical skill sets for today’s workforce. The level of initial tasks assigned is based on the intern’s schooling and background, with advancement to more challenging tasks dependent on skill growth and attitude. MSI values both technical abilities and attitude equally, emphasizing attributes like a positive “can do” attitude, punctuality, ability to stay on task, effective communication, and willingness to learn and ask questions.
• High School Interns:
• Exposure: Gain exposure to all areas of MSI’s production and engineering departments.
• Tasks: Assigned valuable tasks not directly related to operating machinery, such as electrode mounting, assisting with setups, maintenance work, and print scanning.
• First-Year Goal: To evaluate the intern’s work ethic and basic abilities relevant to Advanced Manufacturing skills.
• College Interns:
• First Year:
• Training: Begin training in components and manual machining areas (e.g., lathes and mills).
• Duties: May include saw cutting, benching, and maintenance work.
• Engineering Students: Will begin color-coding wireframe models and gain exposure to the manufacturing process and machining.
• Note: Responsibilities involving manual machining are assigned only to interns aged 18 and over.
• Second Year:
• Training: Opportunity to begin training on 2D machines.
• Engineering Students: Detailing work will be added to their duties.
• Critical Development: Interns must develop a strong understanding of mold making and MSI’s specific manufacturing process.
• Second-Year Goal: To expand the intern’s knowledge of Advanced Manufacturing opportunities and the mold-making industry, while developing their base machine operator skills.

• Intern Responsibilities:
• Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and safety rules.
• Comply with company policies governing confidentiality.
• Take personal responsibility for actions and activities.
• Maintain professional relationships with company employees and customers.
• Approach policies, procedures, and work with a courteous, enthusiastic, and open-minded attitude.
• Develop self-awareness regarding attitudes, values, and behaviors that influence work and relationships.
• Demonstrate a team player attitude and willingness to assist with all assigned tasks.
• Employer Responsibilities:
• Orient the student intern to the company’s operations, work, and safety policies/procedures.
• Assign and supervise the completion of tasks.
• Provide regular feedback: monthly reviews during the first year, and every 90 days in subsequent years, to inform interns of their progression and any existing gaps.
• Provide exposure and learning opportunities across various departments and positions within the organization.
Educational Assistance:
MSI emphasizes the importance of formal education for a successful career in Advanced Manufacturing and offers college educational assistance to eligible interns.
• Eligibility: Students accepted into an MSI-approved Advanced Manufacturing related program may be eligible.
• Benefits: Educational benefits can include payments for tuition, fees, and books.
• Reimbursement Conditions:
• Eligibility verification must be obtained before enrolling in classes for which reimbursement is sought.
• Reimbursement is issued upon successful completion of a class if the student achieves a grade of “B” or above and attends at least 90% of classroom instruction.
• Valid receipts and transcripts are required for reimbursement.
• Reimbursement covers actual incurred expenses, with any grants, scholarships, or other financial assistance deducted prior to calculation.
• The annual reimbursement limit for undergraduate degrees is $5,250, subject to change in accordance with IRS guidelines (any reimbursement above this amount must be classified as wages).
