Job Description: International Reporter Intern
This is an International Reporter Intern position for Modern Treatise, focused on covering global affairs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Weekly Column: Interns are required to write one weekly column. This column will focus on a designated geographical region, serving as their regular beat.
• Special Coverage: In addition to the weekly column, interns will also provide special coverage related to their assigned region.
Available Regions for Coverage:
Candidates will choose one of the following regions as their focus:
• Africa
• Asia
• China
• India
• Oceania
• The UK
• The Middle East
Internship Details:
• Duration: 6 months.
• Location: This is a virtual internship, allowing for remote work.
• Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
• Benefits: Interns will gain valuable writing experience in international reporting and commentary.
• Start Date: As soon as possible (ASAP).
• Preferred Applicants (not required): Residents of Metro New York, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Chicago are encouraged to apply, though location is not a requirement.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates for the International Reporter Intern position must possess the following skills and attributes:
• Regional Expertise: Adept at reporting on one of the specified regions (Africa, Asia, China, India, Oceania, The UK, or the Middle East).
• Philosophical Understanding: Proficient in understanding political philosophies rather than merely political talking points.
• Multiple Perspectives: Ability to analyze geopolitical subject matters from various viewpoints.
• Fact-Based Reporting: Skilled in relying on fact-based evidence, rather than political or activist “wish-thinking.”
• Neutrality: Ability to write as a neutral reporter, maintaining objectivity in their reporting and commentary.
