This is a Year-Round Intern position in R&D (Research and Development) for an undergraduate student at Sandia National Laboratories.
What You’ll Do:
As an intern, you may be involved in:
• Developing Python models to assess the reliability of grid energy storage systems.
• Developing machine learning models to predict the performance and degradation of energy storage systems.
• Developing optimization algorithms to calculate the optimal dispatch for electric grid resources.
• Collecting data from deployed energy storage systems for the DOE Global Energy Storage Database.

Sandia National Laboratories is a science and engineering lab focused on national security and technology innovation. The Energy Storage Technology and Systems Department focuses on advanced energy storage technologies and systems, including:
• Low-cost battery technologies.
• Safety and reliability of energy storage systems.
• Power electronics and power conversion systems.
• Computational and analytical tools for efficient utilization of energy storage in the electricity infrastructure.
• Deployment and demonstration of new energy storage projects.
• Methods and tools to evaluate the performance and optimal utilization of storage systems.
Sandia collaborates with other departments (materials sciences, power sources, electrical sciences, fire science, power systems, renewables and grid integration) and stakeholders in the electricity industry (electric utilities, product developers, universities, and other national laboratories).
