Job Description:
Sandia National Laboratories, through Lensa and DirectEmployers, is seeking a Year-Round R&D Undergraduate Intern to join the Energy Storage Technology and Systems Department.
Responsibilities:
• Develop python models to assess the reliability of grid energy storage systems
• Develop machine learning models to predict the performance and degradation of energy storage systems
• Develop optimization algorithms to calculate the optimal dispatch for electric grid resources
• Collect data from deployed energy storage systems for the DOE Global Energy Storage Database
Team Focus:
The Energy Storage Technology and Systems Department focuses on developing advanced energy storage technologies and systems. This includes:
• Low-cost battery technologies
• Energy storage system safety and reliability
• Power electronics and power conversion systems
• Computational and analytical tools for efficient energy storage utilization in the electricity infrastructure
• Deployment and demonstration of new energy storage projects for the DOE OE Energy Storage program
• Development of methods and tools to evaluate storage system performance and optimal asset utilization
The department collaborates with various Sandia departments (materials sciences, power sources, electrical sciences, fire science, power systems, renewables and grid integration) and stakeholders in the electricity industry (electric utilities, product developers, universities, and other national laboratories).
