Job Description
This position is for an “Intern – UT, West Valley” within the Church’s Family Services organization. The primary objective of this role is to support Church leaders in providing care for individuals facing social and emotional challenges by offering resources consistent with gospel principles.
The intern’s main responsibility is to provide direct counseling services and consultation to ecclesiastical leaders, working under close supervision. This involves assisting clients and Church leaders with a broad spectrum of social and emotional difficulties, including but not limited to suicide, mental disorders, child and spouse abuse, and other family relationship issues.
Key responsibilities are broken down by percentage:
• 60% of the time will be dedicated to providing clinical care under close supervision.
• 20% will involve providing consultation and maintaining a positive professional rapport with Church leaders.
• 15% of the intern’s time will be spent on maintaining accurate and updated notes in the data collection system.
• 5% is allocated to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized work area.
The role demands a strong commitment to quality customer service and strict adherence to all professional standards of practice. The intern will operate in an environment requiring rigorous compliance with confidentiality, legal issues, and organizational policies, necessitating a high degree of professionalism and sensitivity.
Qualifications for this internship include:
• Enrollment as a 2nd-year master’s degree student in a counseling program such as Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling Psychology, or a closely related field.
• Ability to uphold exacting standards of moral conduct.
• Knowledge of legal issues pertinent to the counseling profession.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitive subject matter professionally with both clients and ecclesiastical leaders.
• Proven strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The capacity to develop and adhere to an individual training plan for ongoing skill education and professional development.
• Ability to deliver services in alignment with gospel standards and values.
• Maintenance of a professional appearance and attitude.
