2027 State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern | Plante Moran

The TL;DR
• Role: 2027 State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern
• Type: Non-exempt (may exceed standard 40-hour work week)
• Location: Hybrid in CO, IL, OH, MA regions (some local, national, and occasional international travel may be required)
• Pay: $33.00–$36.00 hourly
• Mission: Assuring the financial health of organizations by providing comprehensive tax consulting services and preparing specialized state and local tax returns.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Consulting: Provide specialized tax consulting services focusing on state and local taxes, including income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes, for diverse organizations.
• Tax Preparation: Prepare various tax returns, specifically state and local income and franchise tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Research & Analysis: Research complex tax issues thoroughly, providing clear conclusions through written technical memorandums or verbal explanations, and contribute to internal and external tax alerts on current developments and planning techniques.
• Professional Development: Deepen expertise in state and local tax, alongside other tax areas like federal tax, by actively participating in comprehensive training programs designed to enhance tax knowledge.
• Client & Internal Engagement: Develop meaningful interactions with staff members at all organizational levels and build relationships with an impressive repertoire of clients, fostering collaborative environments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting, or a Master’s degree in accounting or tax.
• Experience: Completed the first two entry-level accounting courses and currently enrolled in the first intermediate level accounting course.
• Skills: Detail-oriented leadership, problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
• Bonus: Academic success with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and actively pursuing an LLM, JD, or CPA license.
