Internship, Sales & Sales Engineer, Energy Engineering (Fall 2026) | Tesla
The Tone:
This is an internship at Tesla, located in Palo Alto, CA; Fremont, CA; Austin, TX. Tesla is dedicated to accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy by developing, manufacturing, and selling battery energy storage products. This role is crucial for recognizing and developing emerging talent, contributing to projects that are vital for the success of the energy teams, and advancing the deployment of grid-scale energy storage. The program provides an experience that allows the intern to grow technically, professionally, and personally.

• Mission: This person enables the development and sales of Tesla’s battery energy storage products by providing technical and financial analysis and streamlining sales engineering processes for utility, commercial, and industrial customers.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop and sell Tesla Energy products, focusing on battery energy storage systems (BESS) for utility, independent power producers, developers, and commercial/industrial customers.
• Identify the best commercial and technical fit of Tesla’s battery systems for prospective customers by creating and defining comprehensive business cases.
• Build internal analytical and software tools to streamline the sales engineering process, supporting a high volume of energy projects.
• Evaluate new market segments and perform detailed analysis of storage potential in close collaboration with sales teams.
• Understand regional energy markets and utilities, defining and disseminating functional requirements to inform and update modeling processes related to tariffs and market mechanisms.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience developing software or analytical tools to solve problems.
• Skills: Ability to develop software in Python, proficiency in software engineering tools (Git, Atlassian Suite), and knowledge of battery systems, power conversion, and grid systems.
• Bonus: Ability to keep track of quickly changing market conditions regarding energy storage funding, product development, and the competitive landscape.
