Job Description

Intern, Complex Systems Diagnostics and Prognostics Design – Summer 2026

Please apply only if you are responsive on LinkedIn and prepared to move forward in the application process.

Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Fleet Health Management and Remote Diagnostics team. This role will involve supporting the development of a unified Vehicle and Fleet Health Management (VHM/FHM) framework, a strategic initiative focused on predictive diagnostics and intelligent fault management across multiple vehicle platforms. The intern will also perform related technical tasks under the guidance and mentorship of senior engineers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support Lucid’s Fleet Health Management (FHM) and Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of a unified framework for monitoring and managing vehicle health at both individual vehicle and fleet levels.
  • System Health Modeling: Develop models that represent the health of vehicle components, subsystems, and full systems using telemetry data, engineering design inputs, and software diagnostics.
  • Knowledge Base Development: Design and expand a flexible, scalable diagnostic knowledge base that integrates vehicle architecture, hardware, and software, enabling support across multiple trims and vehicle platforms.
  • AI/ML-Driven Fault Detection: Apply machine learning techniques to detect early signs of failure, isolate root causes, and recommend mitigation strategies before issues escalate.
  • Knowledge Graph & LLM Integration: Explore the use of knowledge graphs and large language models to enhance fault reasoning, automate diagnostic logic creation, and improve system explainability and scalability.
  • Collaborate closely with system architects and technical specialists to translate engineering expertise into actionable diagnostic and prognostic models.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of AI/ML techniques applied to Prognostics and Health Management (PHM), particularly early fault detection, fault isolation, and mitigation strategies.
  • Solid foundation in systems engineering and/or vehicle architecture.
  • Experience in data analysis and machine learning, with emphasis on time-series data and anomaly detection.
  • Familiarity with PHM principles and methodologies.
  • Exposure to knowledge representation methods, including knowledge graphs.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages and relevant AI/ML libraries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Field of study in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program at an accredited institution.
  • Proof of current enrollment or enrollment in an upcoming academic term (MS or PhD).
  • Experience with vehicle telemetry systems or signal processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs) or generative AI frameworks.
  • Exposure to semantic modeling or ontology development concepts.

Compensation:
This position offers an hourly compensation range of $50.00–$70.00 per hour.
