Job Description:

This internship offers undergraduate students (Juniors or Seniors) and Master’s students with an interest in European affairs and transatlantic relations an opportunity to contribute to research and activities related to U.S. policy towards Europe and the foreign policies of European states. Interns will apply theoretical knowledge in a professional environment, supporting the Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE) at Brookings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with programmatic and administrative tasks.
• Participate in event coordination for workshops, roundtables, briefings, and other meetings.
• Conduct research on issues relevant to CUSE’s work.
• Monitor current developments in relevant research areas.
• Collect, review, summarize, and assemble literature materials from various sources.
• Compile and update mailing, media, and invitation lists.
• Attend foreign policy events and brief CUSE staff members.
• Provide general administrative support.

Learning Objectives:

The internship focuses on a range of issues, including:

• The foreign policies of the Trump administration and their impact on European security and U.S.-European relations.
• The Russia-Ukraine war and related U.S. and European policies.
• The politics and foreign policies of the European Union and countries like France, Germany, and Turkey.
• Opportunities and challenges for transatlantic relations.

Interns will:

• Gain substantive professional experience.
• Hone organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
• Gain first-hand experience in public policy and international affairs.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate students in their junior or senior year or graduate students pursuing a Master’s degree.
• Interest in European affairs and transatlantic relations.
• Must be located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
• Must be willing to commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week during regular business hours (with some flexibility for academic schedules).
• Applicants must be able to live and work in states other than Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington.
• Hourly pay rate is $18.00.
