Assurance Intern – Summer 2027 | RSM US LLP

This is an Assurance Intern role at RSM US LLP for Summer 2027. The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person (client locations)
• Pay: $34–$40 hourly
• Mission: To foster strong client relationships by understanding their businesses and challenges, and to identify and resolve accounting or reporting issues through comprehensive audit engagements.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Understand client needs: Comprehend clients’ specific needs, expectations, their business operations, and relevant industry dynamics, alongside their accounting and control systems, company values, and employees. This also includes grasping industry-related GAAP and GAAS issues pertinent to their operations.
• Learn audit methodology: Develop a thorough understanding of RSM’s proprietary audit approach and the various tools utilized in the auditing process.
• Assess risk and controls: Evaluate and assess financial risks while also thoroughly reviewing and analyzing the client’s internal control structure to identify potential weaknesses or areas for improvement.
• Perform tests: Execute substantive tests and tests of internal controls designed to identify and effectively resolve complex accounting or reporting issues that may arise during the audit engagement.
• Draft financial statements: Prepare and draft comprehensive financial statements, ensuring they conform to prescribed formats and regulatory requirements.
The Must-Haves
• Background: The ideal candidate is an entry-level professional currently working towards a B.A. / B.S. degree or an equivalent from an accredited university, with an academic focus on Accounting. A minimum of 90 credit hours must be completed prior to the internship.
• Experience: This role requires the ability to travel to assigned client locations. Candidates must have access to and be able to arrange for the use of reliable modes of transportation to reach these various client sites.
• Skills: Possesses a foundational understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and auditing standards (GAAS) relevant to various industries. Capable of analytical thinking to assess risks and evaluate the effectiveness of internal control structures.
• Bonus: A minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 is preferred for this position.
